Characterizing current structures in 3D hybrid-kinetic simulations of plasma turbulence

In space and astrophysical plasmas turbulence leads to the development of coherent structures characterized by a strong current density important magnetic shears. Using hybrid-kinetic simulations (3D with different energy injection scales) we investigate these characterize their shape. First, present methods estimate overall shape 3D structure using local measurements, foreseeing application on satellite data. Then study configuration inside outside peak regions, comparing statistics in two cases. Last, compare statistical properties obtained ones analyzing an MMS dataset having similar plasma parameters. Thanks our analysis, 1) validate possibility methods, 2) provide overview emerging turbulent regimes, 3) show that 3D-3V can reproduce emerge data for periods studied Phan et al. (2018), Stawarz (2019).
